Zion Memorial Park is a Jewish cemetery located in Bedford Heights, southeast of Cleveland, Ohio. This sacred monument, erected by our founders in memory of the 6 million, was dedicated in 1961. Ashes of victims from three concentration camps are buried beneath it. The names of deceased family members are engraved on the surrounding wall.
For 55 years this has been the site of our annual Memorial Service, held between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We have recently attained recognition by the Ohio Historic Connection in Columbus and are pursuing National Historic Landmark Status for the Monument, which is believed to be the first free standing Holocaust Memorial in the country.
Congregations Beth Am, Bethaynu, Shaarey Tikvah and many more have sections here. The Holocaust memorial was built and dedicated in 1961 by Kol Israel Foundation members at Zion Memorial Park Cemetery, for those who do not have personal grave sites to honor their loved ones. See www.clevelandjewishhistory.net/ins/holocaust-memorial.html for more photos, including dedication ceremony.
