The Ohio Council on Holocaust and Genocide Education expresses its deep sorrow at the loss of life and the injuries sustained at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh this past Shabbat. The attack was a clear expression of the hatred and anti-Semitism that our council works to prevent.

Suzyn Schwebel Epstein, Past-President, and Tim Murnen, current President, express the deep concern each member of the council shares for all those touched by the tragedy, and recognize how much the work of the Council is needed now more than ever.

The HGEN was created to encourage and support teaching and learning about the Holocaust and other Genocides in the hope that such tragic and unnecessary loss of life as we have just witnessed in Pittsburgh will not happen again.

We wish all the wounded a rapid recovery and honor the memory of those who died.  It is our prayer that their memory be for a blessing and that our Jewish and American community know no more sorrow.
